Why Kalshi and Polymarket Price the Same Market Differently (2026)

Ais Fang· perps · Updated October 2026

The same real-world question often trades at meaningfully different prices on Kalshi and Polymarket — 52¢ on one, 58¢ on the other, sometimes for days. This is not a data error. Five structural differences between the platforms produce persistent gaps, and knowing which difference is driving the gap tells you whether it’s an opportunity or a mirage.

The five drivers of the gap

1. Resolution criteria are literally different. Kalshi’s contract says what it resolves on, in Kalshi’s words; Polymarket’s market says it in Polymarket’s words (and resolves through UMA). Two contracts about “the Fed cutting rates” can have different deadline definitions, different sources of truth, and different treatment of partial moves. The gap partially prices this difference in wording.

2. Participant pools don’t overlap. Kalshi’s user base is US-regulated, KYC’d, fiat-on-ramped retail plus institutions. Polymarket’s global base includes crypto-native traders. A politically loaded market can hold a persistent premium on the US platform simply because its users believe differently — that’s a sentiment gap, not a mispricing.

3. Fees shape quoted prices differently. Kalshi’s fee formula and Polymarket’s category-based fees change the effective price each side is willing to quote — see the fee comparisons. A 2¢ gross gap can be a 0¢ net gap after both fee stacks.

4. Capital is not mobile between them. Arbitrage would close any pure mispricing, but moving capital from fiat-KYC-Kalshi to crypto-Polymarket takes days and creates compliance friction for US users. Slow capital = persistent gaps.

5. Liquidity depth differs per side. One platform can have a deep book on YES while the other is deep only on NO. Quoted prices from thin books are less meaningful — the mid moves on small trades.

When the gap is an opportunity

A tradeable gap requires all of:

  1. Identical resolution — read both criteria word by word; if they could resolve differently, the gap is compensation for that risk, not free money
  2. Net positive after both fee stacks — price the round trip
  3. Enough depth — your size fills without walking either book
  4. Capital in both places already — transfer time kills most arbitrages

Our Kalshi–Polymarket arbitrage guide walks the full math including the negative-risk case with more than two outcomes.

FAQ

Is a price difference between Kalshi and Polymarket arbitrage? Only if the contracts resolve identically, the net gap survives both fee stacks, and both books have depth. Otherwise the gap is compensation for structural differences.

Which platform’s price is “correct”? Neither, individually. The true probability lives somewhere in the middle, weighted by which book is deeper and which participant pool has more information.

Why do gaps persist for days? Capital immobility between a fiat-regulated exchange and a crypto platform, plus resolution-criteria differences that make naive arbitrage genuinely risky.

Do gaps close before resolution? Most converge as the event approaches and uncertainty narrows. Gaps caused by different resolution wording can persist to the end and resolve in different directions.
